We appreciate your support of Heska Amuna Synagogue and pledge to be responsible stewards of all donations entrusted to our congregation. We will send a suitable acknowledgement card to the person or family honored or memorialized. All donations are acknowledged in HaKOL, our Knoxville Jewish community newsletter, unless you indicate otherwise.

Donation Opportunities by Category
Assistance
- Bikkur Cholim: Established in memory of Elaine Brown and Marilyn Shorr to support the care of members who are sick, infirm, or isolated
- Member Assistance: Established in memory of Bryan Merrell to assist member participation in Jewish growth programs
Burial and Funeral
- Cemetery: This fund supports maintenance and improvements at the Knoxville New Jewish Cemetery.
- Chesed: Contributions support the efforts of the committee that provides a meal of condolence following a funeral.
- Chevra Kadisha: Contributions support the efforts of the committee that prepares our deceased for burial in accordance with Conservative Judaism practices.
- Memory Garden: Contributions support the shaded sitting area in the cemetery where visitors may rest and remember their loved ones.
- Yahrzeit: Donations to the synagogue honor the memory of a loved one on the anniversary of his/her death.
Education & Youth Programs
- Restarting HARS: Contributions support efforts to again have a religious school at the synagogue.
- Camp Ramah: This fund supports students unable to afford the cost of Jewish camping experience at Camp Ramah.
- Educational Enrichment: This fund is used to provide, enhance, and enrich educational programs of the Synagogue.
- Educator’s Supplement: Established by Nancy and Jeffrey Becker, this fund supplements the salary/benefits compensation package of the Heska Amuna Education Director and teachers in the Religious School.
- Religious School Capital: This fund provides for capital improvements of our religious school.
- Religious School Financial Aid: This fund assists students needing financial assistance to attend our religious school.
- Youth Enrichment: This fund, established in memory of Bradley Sturm, provides funds for youth enrichment activities.
Environmental
- Environmental Awareness: This fund, established in memory of Rose Rosenthal, mother of Jenifer Ohriner, supports educational programs and practices relating to environmental preservation and conservation.
Buildings & Grounds
- Building Fund: This fund is used for capital improvements, expansions, and emergency repairs to the buildings and property of the synagogue.
- Cohen-Presser Endowment: This fund supports maintenance of the building’s physical integrity. Established in memory of Amy Cohen and David Cohen, Eva and Louis Slovis, and Norbert Slovis, and in honor of Lisa, Michael, Adam, David, and Jennifer Cohn.
- Glazer-Cohen Endowment: This fund, established in memory of Gertrude Glazer Cohen and I. B. Cohen, mother and father of Arnold Cohen and Robert Cohen, helps to defray significant synagogue expenses.
- Outside Beautification: Contributions provide for the maintenance and beautification of the Synagogue grounds.
Operations
- Calendar: Contributions support production of our yahrzeit calendar and congregational directory.
- Change for the Future: Contributions defray our daily operating expenses.
- General Operations: Contributions provide for our operating expenses.
- Library: Contributions support our Winick Library with new books and periodicals of interest.
- Security Fund: This fund, established by Sandy Parker and Steven Beber in honor of their grandchildren, supports our efforts to provide a safe and secure facility.
Programs
- Special Programming: This fund, established in memory of Sylvia Robinson, supports special communal events.
Rabbi and Religious Observance
- Rabbi’s Discretion: This fund is for use at the Rabbi’s discretion, consistent with the goals of Tzedakah, both inside the congregation and in the larger community.
- Defenders of the Faith: This fund is used for the repair, replacement, or embellishment of religious items used for observance, prayer, or Torah study.
- Flower Fund: This fund, established in memory of Zelda and Miles Siegel, provides flowers to beautify the sanctuary, primarily for the High Holidays.
- Minyan: Contributions are used for charitable purposes at the discretion of the attendees of the Morning Minyan.
- Shabbat Oneg and Kiddush: Contributions support weekly celebrations of Shabbat.
